101 Okey

How to play 101 Okey

101 Okey is the open, scoring version of Turkey's beloved tile game — where plain Okey is a quick closed race to go out, 101 Okey is a full tile-rummy. You lay your melds face-up on the table, lay off, and try to go out while keeping the tiles in your hand light, because the score is a penalty you are trying to avoid. You play against three bots — or take on real people online.

The tiles

The same 106 tiles as Okey: the numbers 1 to 13 in four colours (red, yellow, black, blue), two of each, plus two false jokers. After the deal one tile is the indicator; the okey (joker) is the tile one higher in the same colour, and the two false jokers stand in for it — four wild tiles in all. The starter is dealt 15 tiles, everyone else 14.

Your turn

  • Draw a tile — the face-down stock or your left-hand neighbour's last discard.
  • Lay melds to your own table area, and lay off tiles onto your melds.
  • Discard one tile to end your turn.

A run is three or more consecutive numbers in one colour; a set is three or four of a number in different colours. Jokers stand in for any tile.

Going out & scoring

You go out by getting your whole hand into melds except a single tile, which you discard. Everyone else then adds up the tiles still in their hands as penalty points — a tile counts its number, and a joker counts 20. Going out by discarding the okey doubles those penalties. Points pile up hand after hand; the moment anyone reaches 101, the game ends and the player with the lowest score wins.

Strategy

Lay your melds when you safely can — tiles on the table can't be caught in your hand if an opponent goes out. Keep your jokers working in melds rather than stranded in hand, where each is worth 20 against you. Watch your left-hand neighbour's discards for the tile that completes a run, and shed your heaviest loose tiles first so a sudden go-out doesn't sting. Tap tiles to select a meld, then Lay; double-tap a tile to discard it. N starts a new game.

101 Okey

The open, scoring Turkish tile-rummy; you vs three bots, 106 tiles. The indicator sets the okey (joker); false jokers are wild too. Starter gets 15 tiles, others 14. On your turn draw the stock or your left neighbour's discard, lay melds to your table area and lay off, then discard. Melds: runs (3+ consecutive, one colour) and sets (3–4 of a number, different colours); jokers are wild. Go out by laying everything but one tile and discarding it — the others then score the tiles left in hand as penalty (number value; a joker = 20), doubled if you went out on the okey. Points accumulate; when anyone hits 101 the game ends and the lowest score wins. Tap tiles then Lay; double-tap to discard. N new game.
