Tysiąc
How to play Tysiąc
Tysiąc — "a thousand" — is Poland's national card game, an auction point-trick game in the Marriage family. Its signature is the meldunek: when you hold the King and Queen of a suit you declare a "marriage", making that suit trump and scoring a fat bonus. You play against two bots, racing to be first to 1000 — or play online against two friends in real time.

The cards
A 24-card deck — 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace in each suit. Cards rank, high to low, Ace, 10, King, Queen, Jack, 9. Points: the Ace is 11, the 10 is 10, the King 4, the Queen 3, the Jack 2, the 9 nothing — 120 in the cards.
The auction & the musik
Each player gets seven cards; three go face-down to the musik. Players bid points — from 100, in tens — for the right to take the musik and play alone against the other two. The winner takes the three musik cards (ten in hand), then gives one card to each opponent (everyone now holds eight).
Marriages & play
- When it is your turn to lead and you hold the King and Queen of a suit, play one of them to declare a marriage: that suit becomes trump and you score ♠40, ♣60, ♦80 or ♥100.
- You must follow suit and beat the trick when you can; if void, you must trump (and over-trump).
- The highest trump wins, else the highest card of the led suit.
Scoring
The bidder must score at least their bid (cards + marriages): make it and add the bid, fall short and subtract it. Each opponent scores what they took, rounded to the nearest ten. The first player to 1000 wins.
Strategy
Bid for the musik when your hand holds aces, tens and — above all — a marriage or two; the hearts marriage alone is 100. Hold a King-Queen pair until you are on lead, then declare. As the bidder, lead trumps to draw them and protect your aces; as a defender, dump your points only when your side is winning the trick. Tap a card to play it; legal cards are highlighted. N starts a new game.
